Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal-Short Form

User Level: C

The Watson-Glaser Short Form is an abbreviated version of the original test and is an ideal tool to help make smarter hiring and employee development decisions. The Watson-Glaser Short Form has been updated in 2005 with new normative information and an enhanced score report.

The Watson-Glaser Short Form is an assessment tool designed to measure an individual's critical thinking skills. Critical thinking – logical thinking used for drawing conclusions from facts and evidence - plays a vital role in many occupations in which careful, analytical thinking is important and essential in performing essential functions of a job.

The Watson-Glaser Short Form has been improved with:

new industry and occupational norms
an enhanced score report that provides for fast, easy interpretation
new reliability and validity information
New industry-specific normative information includes:
Financial Services, Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing/Production,Retail/Wholesale, Health Care, Information Technology and Telecommunications.

New occupational norm groups will be available for positions including:
Executive, Director, Manager, Supervisor, Sales and Hourly/Entry-Level positions.

The Watson-Glaser Short Form now includes an enhanced score report to make interpreting test results easier and more meaningful. This new scoring summary report includes overall test performance as well as subscale performance. The addition of color and text narrative makes interpreting results easier than ever (see the Sample Report Link).

The Watson-Glaser Short Form is composed of 40 items and can be completed in 30 minutes.

The examinee is asked to evaluate reading passages that include problems, statements, arguments, and interpretations. The Watson-Glaser Short Form has a long history of use in educational and organizational settings. It is useful in determining an individual's ability to think critically, assessing if employees have improved their critical thinking from training and instructional programs, as well as for conducting research on the critical thinking construct.

What the Watson-Glaser Short Form Measures

The Watson-Glaser Short Form produces a single score as well as subscale profiles based upon the assessment of five critical thinking skills:

Inference
Recognition of Assumptions
Deduction
Interpretation
Evaluation of Arguments
