pan Announces New SportsTesting.com Venture

February 24, 2001. Indianapolis, IN – Today Performance Assessment Network, Inc. (pan) announced the launch of a new subsidiary Internet-based testing site -SportsTesting.com. The site offers assessment professionals in the athletic industry a one-stop shop for a variety of tests and assessments for evaluating athletes, coaches, and teams. SportsTesting.com will build on the technology utilized in pan's industry leading e-testing destination site, pantesting.com.

"The use of performance-predicting assessments in the athletic industry is a growing market," comments pan CEO Dr. David Pfenninger. "It is now obvious to those who follow sports that the issues of character, sacrifice, team play, and coachability - in short, the 'mental game,' is every bit as important as sheer physical and athletic talent. Teams invest huge resources in their athletes and need to have better data available for evaluating the kind of person they are investing in. By leveraging the patent-pending technology we have developed for pantesting.com, we can now bring the same cost-effective process to the professional sports psychologist and consultant, athletic director, director of player personnel, recruiter, and coach that we have pioneered for the human resource, training, and clinical testing professional."

pan will offer tests initially from three well-known publishers who have a history of developing assessments targeted at the athletic market. The tests by publisher include:

  • Troutwine and Associates
    Coaching Style Inventory
Troutwine Athletic Profile (Coach & Player Reports)
  • PsyMetrics
    Winning Profile Athlete Inventory
  • CCI Assessment Group
    360° Coach Survey
    360° Player Survey
    360° Leader Survey
    360° Team Survey

The tests are currently in use by many professional and Division I collegiate athletic teams. Adoption by high school athletic departments is a trend that is widely expected within the next year. The proven performance prediction as well as the coaching and player development data derived from the instruments is a major reason for their use.

Dr. Pfenninger reports that a test of intellectual resources for athletes is currently in development: "The most commonly used intelligence measure at present for athletes is generic and of dubious validity. We have asked PsyMetrics test developer Dr. Jesse Llobet to develop a new and more focused measure, which will be featured on SportsTesting.com later this year. This will give the assessment professional access to a complete psychological and cognitive profile of the athlete to complement the assessment of physical talent." In addition to the assessments SportsTesting.com will also offer links to useful resources for the sports testing professional.

Performance Assessment Network (pan) is a full service e-testing provider of valid assessments for industry, education, and health care.
